Recorder Emeritus
Philip M. Schaeffer

To those Nobles who are not acquainted with Ziyara’s Recorder Emeritus, we present Philip Schaeffer, who was elected on June 15, 1996, to succeed Illustrious Sir William H. Griffith in this important office and sadly passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the age of 89.

Ziyara’s Recorder Emeritus was born in Brooklyn on October 26, 1927 and received his early education in the Brooklyn schools, graduating from high school in 1945, after which he continued his education at New York University. He chose for his vocation the field of sales, representing the Sansabelt Company, manufacturers of men’s clothing, until his retirement in 1992. He was discharged in 1947 from the U.S. Army after serving two years in the army paratroops.

He married to the former Gloria H. Kover. Phil and Gloria are parents of two daughters, Paula S. Sawyer and Linda F. Gewirtz and a son Steven B. Schaeffer. Noble Phil and his wife Gloria were members of Temple Emanu-el and was also affiliated with the Men’s Apparel Trade Group.

Phil’s Masonic history includes membership in Moriah Lodge #958 which he joined in 1963 and served as its secretary. The following year he joined the Yahnundasis Bodies, AASR. June 6, 1964 saw him created a Noble of Ziyara Temple where he continues to be an active participant in Unit activity. He was a member of the Reception Caravan, serving as Secretary/Treasurer; the Transportation Unit; Valley Shrine Club; Western Shrine Club; the Unit Council and the Universal Council of Engineers.
